I don’t know about you, but finding something low key, but worthwhile to do on the weekends during winter months is harrrd. I mostly just hibernate and pretend like I’m working on my new years resolutions, but really I’m just snuggled up on my couch with my frenchie and my husband binge watching the latest TV series (or in this year’s case, working on renovating our kitchen).
Recently I decided to FINALLY visit Asheville and see what the hype is all about. I mean it’s only 3 hours away from Atlanta and I’ve never been, so like, it was time. Basically everyone and their mom has been to Asheville, so I’m glad to say that I’ve officially joined the club. Have you been yet?
Keep reading for what to do/see in Asheville, along with a few looks that I brought with me…
During our time in Asheville, we stayed at the AC Hotel Downtown Asheville. In my opinion, it was a pretty good setup. Not only was it on one of the main streets downtown, but it was walking distance to almost everywhere you wanted to go in the city. I will admit, we did Uber a few times because, winter and shoes, but we pretty much admit that we should have just walked each time. No regrets thoughhh.
Anyway, the AC was pleasantly surprising. They had modern bathrooms and beds with a pretty great color scheme if you ask me (ahem… all neutrals). They even sold full bottles of pretty decent wine in the gift shop, so yeah. They got me. Can’t start a weekend without a chilled glass of Chardonnay, right?
Also, side note – shout out to the sweet man who kept up our room. He was so accommodating and left a few extra waters and bath soap (which smelled amaze). Thank you, sir, for your generosity. It will be forever remembered.
One of the best parts about the hotel was the rooftop restaurant, Capella on 9, which turned into a pretty fun bar scene at night. They had live music, great wine, and seemed to be a pretty cool crowd. Nothing better than not having to leave your hotel to have a good time #amiright or #amiagrandma? Grandma vibes beside us, it was very convenient. Especially if you want to go out for a few drinks and then have night cap at your own place after. win win.

We got to try both brunch and a tapas style dinner with Capella on 9 while we were there. My fav dish was the avocado toast. They had a pretty good charcuterie as well. While I’m mostly a wine drinker, I did have a taste of a few cocktails and they were pretty delish. I’m not a cocktail drinker, except for martinis, but looked like they had some good options. My friend got an off menu espresso martini and it was fire.
So things to do in Asheville…If I had to narrow down Asheville in 3 words, I’d say 1. beer 2. art and 3. food.
Well first off, if you’re a beer lover, this is the place to be. Beer personally hurts my stomach, but there are quite a few breweries around and I heard a ton of great things from some of the people we met up there. I did, however, get to partake in the last two – and let me tell you – this is my scene. My perfect day (or weekend) would be some combination of art with delicious food and of course a few day cocktails. Like I said, Asheville is that scene and I felt completely at home.
We ended our stay by visiting the Biltmore. I was blown away at how gorgeous this building (ahem, castle) is. We only toured the house, but apparently there’s so much to do there – winery, food, horseback riding, gun range, etc. Even if you just go see it, it’s worth it. Promise.
A few must sees/do:
- River Arts District
- Capella on 9 (for Dinner and stay for the live music)
- The Chemist
- The Biltmore
I did secure a promo link for 20% off your stay at the AC Hotel Downtown Asheville. Click Here when you’re ready to schedule. If you’re bored in the winter, definitely go for a quick weekend; but I would say that Spring would be an amazing time to visit (although I think it’s also their busy season – so higher prices).
