I think any girl (and even some guys) can agree that shoes are one of the most fun items to style into an outfit. Would you agree? In my opinion, you can make any outfit elevated simply by throwing on a good pair of shoes.
A few basics that any fashion-loving women at minimum should own are definitely a pair of neutral stilettos, flat black booties, loafers, pointed flats and heeled mules, and an all white sneaker.
If you know me, my process for adding items to my closet is a long one. I know, I know, it’s a little ridiculous to spend so much time combing through thousands of the same item on the internet; but it’s almost therapeutic to me. Not to mention the weird excitement I get when I find “the one.” While my husband watches sports at night, I’m window shopping online. Win. Win.
When I was first introduced to Cole Haan’s fall collection of shoes, I immediately started my same process of comparison to other shoes that I already own or am currently coveting. To my surprise, I found quite a few styles that would fit perfectly for my personal style – the styles I share below being two of them.
Let’s first talk about a classic pointed, flat mule…
As the temperatures start to drop, the more closed toe’d shoes I start to stock up on. Since we’re in a weird in between weather pattern, these open back mules are, in my opinion, one of the best transitional shoes you can add to your closet. It’s a good mix of closed toe, but still open.
Of course I chose the neutral color (could you guess?). These mules are super versatile and I can already see them paired with other looks. I also found a really AMAZING pair of leopard print mules in this same style; that I wanted equally as bad. They are good, guys. Really good.
Side note: anyone else get a little too excited to see these fall-colored leaves on the street? Just me? K.
I styled these neutral mules into a rather basic and easy to re-create look. I would guess most of you already have some sort of trench coat or long line cardigan in your closet already. This trench is very on-trend for fall with the plaid print and paired with a silk-like pajama shirt from Zara. Not to mention that the layering is v helpful if it gets too hot during the day.
The second shoe I highly recommend as a perfect basic to your collection. If you don’t already have an all white sneaker in your closet, I’d honestly be shocked. Never mind the dad shoes (yes, I am still a fan), a sleek pair is what you need and these Cole Haan GrandPro tennis sneakers are the thinnest and lightest pair of non-workout shoes I own. swear.
You can throw a sneaker on to just about any look these days and be very much on trend. no joke – I’ve seen everything from dresses, to oversized pants, to joggers, and even belted men’s blazers (guilty).
This look is quickly becoming one that I can see myself wearing as we move into colder months. If you’re not a fan of the cycling shorts trends, I get it, but MAN are they comfy. Throwing on some sort of athletic inspired look under a structured, almost professional like, camel coat just makes my little heart so happy. Yes, you can be comfortable, but also look put together at the same time. Case and point.
I would agree that you need a pair of clean and sleek shoes to pull of a balanced look of being casual, but intentional. Just FYI – I’ll probably wear some sort of combination like this all of fall. sorry in advanced.
