where she lives | marah rice

Okay okay, this month’s where she lives post I’m super excited to share with you where one of my fav Atlanta creatives lives. This apartment is too cool and gives me alllll the NYC vibes. If I didn’t just move into a house, I may have convinced my husband to look for similar options. Maybe I can re-create some of this in my new place? maybeee.

Marah Rice may actually do it all. When it comes to the creative space, she basically has had experience with content creation in all aspects of the word. She is also one of the funniest, most laid back people I’ve been around lately. Her quaint one bedroom apartment, which is very close to piedmont park, is serious living space goals.

Tell us a little about who you are and what you do.

My name is Marah, blogger, social media content creator, stylist, writer, and many other titles rolled into one. I am 25 years old and still on the path of figuring it all out. Currently, I am trying a little bit of everything. I blog over at MarahCAR.com and also divide my time between working as a wardrobe stylist for photoshoots and commercials and writing content for marketing companies and businesses looking to build brand awareness. Ideally, I would love to be a creative director for a fashion brand, which would combine my love for fashion, people, and social media.

Your home feels like a New York City apartment. We’re obsessed. How’d you score this location and what inspired you to decorate this way?

Honestly, I would say it was luck, but I’m not much of a believer in luck so for me, it was a complete God thing. I really wanted to live alone and had been praying I would find an apartment perfectly suited for me and this place was beyond what I had even hoped for.

I found the place on Craigslist and was convinced it was a scam because of the price, description and location. There were only a couple of pictures of the outside of the home but I called the number and decided to come check it out anyway. I was sold when I saw the huge windows surrounding all exterior walls and the old hardwood floors and quaint little kitchen.

As far as my decorating style, it is just very me. A lot of neutrals, extremely eclectic, with some vintage here and there. I knew what I liked, so I just wanted my home to be a complete reflection of who I am and what I love.

Where are your go to places for home decor? And any tips for styling?

Almost everything in my apartment was thrifted or from consignment furniture places. The same with clothes, if it’s cool, I don’t care if it’s used or how much it costs, I will buy it and make it work. I bought my couch and few rugs new, but most everything else was second-hand. So my main places for home decor are going to all of the consignment and antique furniture places!

Secondly, I love affordable places like TjMaxx and Target for pillows, rugs, lamps, and little decor items.

West Elm is a dream, but not in my current price range. Haha!

Your style is very cool, can you describe your personal style – Both interiors and with clothes?

I wear what I like and what I feel good in. I would say with clothes I tend to lean a bit more towards sporty/tomboy styles. I grew up as an athlete so sneakers have always been my shoe of choice. I’m slowly growing into more feminine styles as I get older but still love to mix and match styles and vibes. My apartment aesthetic is similar. Not super girly. I love for it to have a little bit of a funky, eclectic feel to it, but still remain casual and effortless.

What are your fav fashion trends at the moment?

Really digging clear hand bags, geometric and Art Deco earrings, dad shoes, bandanas.

Okay, what about the classics. What are your top 3 “must-haves” in your closet?

A go-to pair of white sneaker, Stan Smith Adidas Originals are my preferred white sneaker. A great pair of high-waisted slim fitting denim. And, hm, probably a black leather jacket? You can do a lot with those three items.

What’s one fashion rule that you never break?

I don’t know if there are any? I try not to get too caught up in rules. But for a man, your belt and shoes needs to match.

Do you have any specific brands that you love or places that you shop frequently?

I think Zara does a really good job of making affordable pieces that are really on trend and I almost always can find something at Urban Outfitters. If I’m looking for nicer quality pieces, I love And Other Stories. Besides that, I thrift a lot.

What would you tell someone who’s trying to develop their own personal style?

I would tell them to first start out wearing what makes them feel good. I made the mistake when starting my blog of trying to constantly put together these “fashion” looks that I would never actually wear in real life. If you start with pieces you truly love and you feel good wearing, you can then work in unique accessories, cool shoes, etc. I think personal style is all about representing you. Don’t be afraid to try something a bit “out there”, but also don’t put so much pressure on yourself to be someone that you aren’t. Balance is key.

What’s next for Marah Rice?

If I knew, I would tell you. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see! xx

This where she lives series has seriously made my interior indecisiveness go through the roof. Would you agree? I do love me a good NYC vibe though. Maybe Marah and her super cute adopted cat, Georgia, can add one more to this home?
