I am so happy to continue the Where She Lives series after all the amazing feedback from my launch last month. I mean seriously, you guys are the best and can’t wait to continue this journey with you. I have some great candidates lined up next, so get ready for some serious home inspo.
This month’s home is somewhere I have been dying to get into since I met this Atlanta Blogger. Emily, from Born on Fifth, has such a chic, pulled together style and her home is no different. It is absolutely stunning and I’m telling you – the pictures are only a peek into how stunning this place really is.
Emily is a fashion and lifestyle blogger in Atlanta. She’s had a few years experience in the fashion industry, including interning at Cosmo and working at Intermix (um, I’m obsessed) and Spanx. She decided to step out and work full time on her passion. She’s even been featured on Lauren Conrad, Glitter Guide, and 100 Layer Cakelet (this happened today!). I mean, come on. Goals.
She’s recently became interested in party styling and, let me tell you, she’s amazing. I’m basically on edge to see what parties she throws next because her daughters most recent birthday party was AMAZING – complete with a real live ballet dancer and all.
But anyways, onto this GORG Atlanta home. Keep reading for my interview with Emily…
Tell us a little about who you are and what you do.
I always hear the line from Mean Girls play in my head when I get asked this question, because the first thing that comes to mind is: I’m a mom. But not, like, a regular mom. I’m a cool mom 😉
And as far as what I do…I’m still trying to answer that myself! I have a blog, which documents fashion and life with Elle. I love styling parties. I consult a little bit here and there (brand strategy type stuff). My most recent official job title was Director of Marketing at Spanx.
I am obsessed with your home style! What inspired you?
So sweet of you to say! I have this mood board in my office full of swipe (magazine tears), collected over the last decade. It basically sums up my inspiration for the house. Ballerinas in blush tutus, greenery like aspen trees and florals, leopard print and denim. These elements are all featured in my house.
When it comes to your home, where are your go to places or online stores to pick up decor items?
I’m a big fan of high/low. My desks are from the Sugar Paper x Target line and some of my favorite accent pieces come from West Elm.
What about statement furniture? In your opinion, any tips to a first time home buyer on which items to invest in first (and which can maybe wait)?
I think it’s always safe to invest in a neutral couch, since you can basically build a room around it even if your tastes change. While not technically furniture, our pendant lights in the kitchen make such a statement and I love them. I want to take them with us if we ever move. Is that allowed?
Okay, same question, but for your personal style – where does it make sense to invest first, if you had to choose one item?
I think a statement bag that makes you feel like you can put your best foot (or arm) forward is a huge. For me, it’s empowering. Shoes are a close second and coats are also outfit-makers.
Your personal style is so chic! How do you always manage to look so pulled together?
You’re too kind! 99% of the time I’m in heels. That helps.
[side note: I couldn’t agree more!]
What are your three favorite pieces in your closet right now?
It’s funny, I basically wear something to death, forget about it and then come back to it. Right now I’m hot on a Sacai sweatshirt that I got last year. It works as well with jeans as it does over workout clothes. Very into these Gianvito Rossi mules and these Levi’s. All good on their own and together, a killer outfit.
Any tips you would have for someone trying to develop their own personal style?
My dear friend Julia is a stylist and she really helped me define my casual look a few years ago, which makes getting dressed every day a breeze. Basically it comes down to knowing how to complement your body with clothes and having the right basics. Similar to how you you put foundation on before makeup…the right tanks and jeans make a world of difference.
We always love finding new places to visit in Atlanta, what are your go to spots in the A?
I just went to Golden Eagle for the first time and I’m obsessed. You can usually find me at Le Bilboquet on date nights and working out at Fit 9 or Stellar Bodies.
Okay, before we sign off, tell us a little about your ADORABLE daughter, Elle’s, style. Do you get inspired by the same places as your own style?
You know, my strategy with her style came out of solving a problem in a sense. She is tiny, so tops and bottom sets didn’t always fit properly. I started buying separates that could all coordinate, so no matter what was wearing (and/or no matter who got her dressed) it all sort of works. I like to stick within a semi-neutral palette too, which helps. I’m sure this will all go out the window when she can start making her own choices!
What’s next for Emily and your blog, Born On Fifth?
You’ll have to tune in to find out 😉 @bornonfifth / bornonfifth.com
Well I don’t know about you, but I am dying over her muted tone decor and her super cute daughter Elle. I may need a few tips on styling flowers and picking out art because, I mean, all my art is basically black and white. Gotta break that ASAP! Also, Emily – when can I move in?
