I figured it’s time to start expanding what I write about on here and am excited to share with you a new skincare regime that I have been DYING to try. after working as a sales consultant for beautycounter last year, I’ve been doing more and more research on skincare and what the “right” way is to take care of your skin. here are a few things I’ve learned as well as some additional (drugstore) tips that I use daily.
first and foremost – I strongly believe it’s what you put in your body that counts the most. people preach on how important water is for your skin and I will 100% back them up and then some. seriously. the biggest difference in my skin is when I make it a priority to chug (okay, I can’t chug so sip) water each day. also – eating an anti-inflamatory diet is super helpful. I just love salty foods, so that’s a little harder for me, okay? okay.
so onto this new routine that I’m addicted to…
there’s a lot of hype around korean skincare products this year, and for good reason. I feel like that area of the globe figured something out that the rest of us are finally starting to come around to.
Saranghae, a korean skincare company, came out with this 5 step, anti-aging, skincare routine and has quickly been recognized by the New York Times and other similar publications as the new kid on the block. I tried this 5 step routine for 1 week and here’s what I found…
FIRST – if I could sum this series of products up in one word, it’d be hydration. I cannot begin to tell you how baby-like my skin felt the first time I put on the products. I actually said out loud “omg this is crazy.” of course my husband comes in wondering what I’m talking about and I made him try it too (gotta keep him looking good! hah).
but in all seriousness, I’ve been madly searching for a good night cream and the only ones I kept going back to were hundreds of dollars or made with products that I wasn’t about to put on my skin. the good news is with this face cream is that you can use both day and night. for me, I already have my FAV day moisturizer with caffeine and spf (see below for product link), so I stuck to night with this routine. sometimes (especially in winter) I may need more hydration then my spf, so I can see myself using both.
my second favorite feature of this routine is that the face wash is OIL BASED. yes, you heard that right. you wash your face with oil (combined with a few other ingredients of course). if you know me – you know I’ve been obsessed with oils ever since I tried them the first time a little over a year ago. I use rose hip oil daily (linked below). the reason I am so in love with Saranghae’s face wash is 1. it takes off your makeup while cleansing. yes, you do not have to take the first step to remove your makeup. it does it for you. and 2. your face feels super clean without feeling dried out. I’m telling you. this will change your life.
a few other quick items to note – you should ALWAYS use an eye cream. don’t skip this. ever. the eye cream from Saranghae is just as hydrating as the rest of the line. as for serums, in all honesty, I haven’t done a ton of research, except I know they are a major part of any skincare regime, so I will be sticking to this step from now on.
BOTTOM LINE: I believe there’s something to this korean skincare trend and, while I only have been using Saranghae for one week, my skin feels baby soft, plump, and clean. it’s a routine that I want to stick to at this point. I can’t wait to see how my skin looks after a few more weeks of using these products! I’ll keep ya updated on instagram (@sarahwisted).
oh one last drugstore tip – you can use vasaline as a makeup remover. Since I’ve been using the facewash to remove most of my makeup, I only have to use the vasaline under my eyes. Simply take a q-tip, dip into the vasaline and LIGHTLY remove under eye make up. it works like a charm and, again, super hydrating.
